Timing and size limits on the 2013 fanwork exchange: Your thoughts and suggestions wanted!

And here are just some starter thoughts up for discussion!

+ Here is what we are looking at for timing:

Sign up between: October 15-24, 2012
Assignments will be handed out: October 28, 2012
First check in: Late November
Second check in: Mid-December
Final check in: Early January
Stories should be posted to the AO3 no later than: January 20, 2013 (really, January 21, 2013, 7am EST)
Stories will go live: February 1, 2013
Authors will be revealed: February 8, 2013

We always give two weeks between posting to AO3 and go-live in case we need to find last-minute pinch hitters (and so people can put stuff into the Scramble while they are not-so-patiently waiting).

2D Art	1 small complete piece or two or three sketches/melodies or a full page of doodles/musical phrases.	2D art includes but is not limited to: hand-drawn art whether on paper/canvas or computer, hand-painted art whether on paper/canvas or computer, photoshopped pieces, photography, musical composition, collages, greeting cards, font creation, and anything else created for the Losers fandom in two dimensions (or sort of two dimensions). For hand-created pieces, a scan or photograph is the submission method. For musical compositions, an audio file is the submission method (and a .pdf or scan of the score, if you are willing to share).
3D Art	1 project of mild complexity.	3D art includes but is not limited to: pottery, fiber arts, chain mail, jewelrymaking, metalworking, woodworking, soap bubble sculptures, macaroni castles, and anything created for the Losers fandom in three dimensions. Submission method is photographs (and instructions if you are willing to share).
Graphics other than those listed below	1 small to medium piece	Graphics are not NOT art - they are simply digital media created to specific sizes for a specific purpose (icons, banners, wallpapers, etc.) These are included under the art category.

Any suggestion on changes to size? Remember that fic has always been just 1000 words - the requirements should be an easily achievable goal, regardless of medium.

+ Meta is not currently allowed on the AO3. That said, we don't want to prevent anyone who desperately wants to give or receive meta from having their wish, so we're looking at workarounds. The current solution is something like this: send it to the mods via email and we will post anonymously to the comm and find a way to link it at the AO3 so it can be included in the collection. After reveals, you can post wherever you like and we will change the links in the masterlist and in the AO3 collection. Any thoughts you have on this process (or a better one) much appreciated!

+ Re: podfic and remix requests, here's what we came up with (suggestions and ideas welcome):

If you are requesting a remix or podfic, please give a list of works you would like remixed or podficced. Please include several sizes and types of works (especially if there are any possible triggers in your list so the remixer/podficcer can avoid if necessary) - don't put down a single 35k fic and expect that to be podficced or remixed for you. You can put it on the list, but please have some works closer to the minimum size limit to help your gift-giver out. It would be nice if you checked to see if the creators have given remix/podfic permission, but the mods will do it for the remixer/podficcer if you haven't done it and linked to the permission in your Dear Creator letter.

+ Beta sign-ups are live! The form is different this year (as we've included all types of fanworks in the exchange) so please fill it out again (sorry if you've filled it out before).

+ Pinch hitter sign-ups are live too! If you've commented before, it's screened. Just reply to that comment to let us know you're in for this year. :D

I have a mostly-unrelated question, since I wasn't around for it last year: what is the Fic Scramble?

Oh, excellent question! There are two parts to this fest, the main exchange (where you sign up and are matched with a giftee) which goes according to the size limit and deadline table up there, and the Scramble, which has almost no rules at all. You can create for anyone in the exchange, whether or not they are your giftee, a gift of any size, and you can post any time during the year (though for the duration of the fest, items will remain unrevealed (and be revealed along with exchange items on the same days)). For the rest of the year, the Scramble is open for people who want to create gifts for folks or for those who defaulted - if someone has defaulted, they must create and post an exchange-sized work to the Scramble before sign-ups close to be eligible for the next year.

I think that's it, does it make sense?

The Scramble is one of my favorite fandom things all year. It's so fun to just let loose and do whatever for people's prompts.

Come to think of it, I have two Losers gift fics that are mostly finished that I am totally going to try and get done for the Scramble this year. :D
