I think the mitts are good for Jake's niece, either they remind her of Uncle Cougar, or they found the mitts/yarn for her on one of their many adventures in South America. The cowl is for Jolene, thinking of her during the autumn or winter with Pooch gone, trying to make a life for herself and the baby (either while pregnant, or baby's first winter).
I've got a shawl started for Aisha, all in shades of grey - will let you know when I have a picture up!
