[personal profile] maharetr posting in [community profile] ante_up_losers
This is the tutorial for posting your bangs and complements to Ante Up: The Losers 2013 Big Bang (stolen from [profile] lady_krysis with immense thanks :D). This entry explains how you should post your fanwork to the Archive of Our Own (AO3) to ensure that your fanwork remains hidden, so the mods have a chance to make sure everything's on track before we go live with Ante Up: The Losers 2013 Big Bang.

This tutorial applies to both bang creators and complement creators but caters primarily to those who are first-time AO3 users or those who aren't familiar with the posting interface.

IMPORTANT: All bang creators and complement creators need to list [archiveofourown.org profile] kisahawklin as co-creator on their fanworks. [personal profile] kate is our background linker extraordinaire (thank you [personal profile] kate, omg). This step is crucial and will make everything so much easier for your mods. Rest assured that we won't make any changes to your fanwork, and we are not trying to take credit for your efforts. This step just allows us to make sure that everything has been posted and linked correctly, and that all fanworks are connected to their bangs and complements. [personal profile] kate will delete herself as co-creator before the bang goes live.

If you're familiar with posting to the Archive, take note of the bolded steps 11 and 15 below, and you should be good to go.

  1. Log in.

  2. Beneath your user icon, you'll see 'Post New.' Click on that button. An alternative method is to go to Ante Up: The Losers Big Bang 2013 Collection. Click 'Post to Collection.' This automatically populates the Post to Collections/Challenges text box field (explained in Step 15).

  3. Rating: Select your rating from the drop down box.

  4. Archive Warnings: Select warnings from the drop down box. If you don't see the warning that you would like to list, you can add them in Notes. (Further explanation is in Step 13.)

  5. Fandoms: Select fandom(s) by typing into the text box. Once you type in "Los", options will appear below the box. You can choose either the film (The Losers (2010)), the comics (The Losers (Comic)), or just The Losers. If your fanwork is a crossover or fusion, you will have to type those fandoms separately and click on the appropriate option when it appears below the box.

  6. Category: Choose your category by ticking the appropriate box. If you do not have any pairings in your fanwork or you do not feel that pairings are significant to your fanwork, then you can tick gen.

  7. Relationships: If your fanwork includes any pairings, you will type those into the relationships text box. If your fanwork is gen, you can leave this field blank.

  8. Characters: Add any characters that appear in your fanwork.

  9. Additional Tags: Add any other tags that you want to include with your fanwork. There are an incredible number of tags on the AO3. Try spelling out some of the key notes about your fanwork (e.g., tropes, type of fanwork, themes, etc.) and it will autofill all kinds of tags for you (and possibly give you some options you never thought of).

  10. Work Title: Enter your title.

  11. IMPORTANT: Add co-authors?: Please tick this box. A text box will appear. Please type kisahawklin and select from the options below. This step will really help out your mods, so that we can make sure everything has been posted and is linked correctly before we go live. As mentioned above, she will remove her name before we open the Collection.

  12. Summary: Add summary into the text field.

  13. Notes: If you have any creator notes (e.g., gratitude for your beta or cheerleaders, any additional explanation about elements of your fanwork, clarification or added warnings for your fanworks, etc.), then you can add them to the beginning or end of your fanwork by clicking the appropriate box. You also have the option to click both boxes and add notes to both the beginning and end of your fanwork.

  14. Does this fulfill a challenge assignment: This can be ignored. It is not relevant to the Ante Up Big Bang.

  15. IMPORTANT: Post to Collections/Challenges: You will have to add your fanwork to Ante Up: The Losers Big Bang 2013 Collection. This will keep your fanwork hidden from view until the mods open the Collection for viewing on October 11. Type in 'ante' or 'los' and several options will appear below the text box. Select Ante Up: The Losers Big Bang 2013.

  16. This work is a remix, a translation, or was inspired by another work: Your friendly mods will take care of this step, so please make sure that you've added as co-authors.

  17. This work is part of a series: Tick this box if your fanwork is part of a larger arc. Your story will remain unrevealed.

  18. This work has multiple chapters: Tick this box if your fic, picspam, comic, etc. has multiple chapters.

  19. Work Text: This is where you will post the html where you fanwork is housed or the text of your fanwork. If you have a multimedia fanwork and need hosting, please contact a mod. We can host your fanwork, and we will send you the html to include in your AO3 post.

  20. When you've followed the above steps, you have the option to preview your work. This will show you what your fanwork looks like. You also have the option to Post Without Preview.

After you post, you will see a blue ribbon at the top of your screen that states: Work was successfully posted. Beneath this blue ribbon, you'll see a second blue ribbon that states: This work is part of an ongoing challenge and will be revealed soon!

If you do not see this second blue ribbon, you will need to immediately edit your work and add your fanwork to Ante Up: The Losers Big Bang 2013.

Remember: you can edit your fanwork at any time by simply clicking Edit. Make any formatting, tag, or text changes that you like, and click Post or Post Without Preview.

For those participants who need hosting, please e-mail your final, completed fanwork to the mods. The html that we gave you will not change. We will replace your draft with the completed fanwork.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns comment here or contact a mod. :)

Two things to check - I've been desperately overloaded with RL work, and am very behind. I still plan to post my BB Spacepirates fic but it'll be right at the deadline which (for me) will need to be be midnight, Midway Is time on the 7th, if that's OK!
And I'll have to post it to AO3 unbetaed and then get it betaed and edit it before it goes live. Is that okay?

Luckily one complementer hasn't needed the draft fic at all, and I wouldn't blame the others for having lost heart, I've been so slow, but we'll see!

Hey all, as anyone posted they work yet? I tried to post the first 4 chapters of my fic today, followed the instructions above on Ao3, but my fic has vanished. It doesn't show up as one of my 'works' and I can't find it anywhere! Help! Is the collection locked until the works go live? Am I being incredibly dumb? (Again)

Thanks! Amy

You're not being incredibly dumb at all, and thank you for posting! It turns out we had moderating on, which means that they disappear until they're approved. I approved everything in the queue and turned moderating off, so hopefully no one else will have this problem.

HOWEVER! There was a bug a while back where if something was unrevealed, you couldn't see it in your works, even if logged in. Therefore, (as a note to all others - I've sent you your link via email), please make note of the address of your work so you can edit it directly. If you lose the address, we can get it for you via the collection, but its best to bookmark it so you can go in and edit your own work if something goes flooey.

Thanks for finding that, and sorry for any inconvenience!
