Hey Losers! It's time for our first check-in! No worries if you're still thinking and feel free to squeak in and sign up if you missed it, we're just going to get started on the weekly accountability so people have a place to talk about their projects that isn't the sign-up posts.

Please respond to the top-level posts, even if you don't have any progress yet, just so we know you're here. Jump in with cheerleading anywhere you like, even if you're not technically on the team! And if you decide you *do* want to be on the team, go ahead and put up a comment at the sign-up post.

Thank you. Also, on the idea of psychopomp, Buddhists have the idea of the Boddhisattva, which is a person seeking enlightenment who pauses on the way they've learned so far. They intend to help others who aren't as far along. Buddhists also have protective and temple-defending warrior spirits who speak to and might be regarded as psychopomps to the more warrior-path inclined.
In a different tradition, a more formal psychopomp-spirit might be "permanent," "adult", unchanging-- they're already developed to their full extent, the powers they exert are not going to change or develop further. Angels or devils might fall into this kind of category.
But I'm wondering how often a more plastic, developing, changeable soul on a path of pretty advanced skills might look pretty ancient and immovable to a younger, more fragile human being.
Some people almost treat the Dalai Lama this way.
This claims the quote is a Hindu saying, but I can't speak to the true Provenance of it, especially given the kinds of things the Innerwebz put into the mouths of Einstein and Abe Lincoln.

Sorry about the delay, I'm still figuring out how to work dreamwidth!

I've had some issues with getting access to the internet (Thor hates me and fried my modem), so it's been slow going at the moment. But I've got good ideas and nagasvoice found some really neat stuff to help give me inspiration! As soon as I've got the next chapter up of a fic I'm already working on, I'll be sitting down to whittle out a genuine timeline for my bang. After that it's a matter of coming up with scenes and figuring out character development, symbolism, and imagery until I've got an outline and plot I'm satisfied with. Then it'll be all research and writing!
