[admin post] Admin Post: Check-in #7!

Please respond to the top-level comments, even if you don't have any progress yet, just so we know you're here. Jump in with cheerleading anywhere you like, even if you're not technically on the team! And if you decide you *do* want to be on the team, go ahead an put up a comment at the sign-up post.

Please - especially if you're not on Dreamwidth much - sign up for reminder emails when these posts go up (click that link, or click the little bell icon at the bottom of the post). You can choose to be emailed about any post to the comm, those tagged with 2014 big bang, or just those tagged with 2014 big bang: check-in.

Please reply to everything you're signed up for. If you've got a bang and two complements, please post something on each thread so your teammates can track your progress and cheer you on! If you only comment on one thread, that's the only one that will be checked off.

Last week's check-in we were only missing [personal profile] charybdis. I sent a PM; anyone know them and can give them a gentle prod?

Let us know if we're missing anyone on your team, or if you have any questions or concerns, please Contact A Mod.

Here we go!

A dry heat is better than humidity, though. At least in dry heat you feel like you're breathing. When you hit 35C+ with high humidity, it's really disquieting because your lungs aren't quite sure they're getting oxygen. I'm good down to about 0C, it's those negatives that kill me. Yeesh. Talk about frigid...

That's very true. And I live next to a kinda sorta ocean (like ten minutes away) so it's pretty humid. Which just makes the heat even worse. I can survive anything between +25C and -35C since that's the expected range of temperature where I live. But warmer or much colder than that I'm gonna get a wee bit cranky.

"Kinda sorta ocean" may be the best description ever.

Well, it's brackish water so I'm hesitant to really call it a part of the ocean xD I live by the Bothnian Bay (right now at least). Which probably means that I should say "kinda sorta sea" instead. My bad! I forget the difference every now and then since we're lazy in Sweden and just use one word to describe both and I keep forgetting that I can't do that in English just because I feel like it xD

I admit, I kinda just use whatever word pops to mind first when it comes to bodies of water I can't see the other side of. And growing up for a formative several years in Texas, lots of bodies of water become gulfs (thanks to the Gulf of Mexico). I figure this is why I'm not the geography major in my family. That, and my insistence on archipelagos and fjords featuring heavily into any map I make regardless of geographic probability.

Archipelagos and fjords are amazing so you'll hear no complaints from me! Geography was one of the subjects I could never seem to fully grasp in school.

Those who can read maps are a special breed. I consider them about on par with soothsayers. Whenever spuri comes and visits me, we have all these exciting plans for places, I get us like three quarters of the way there and then shove the map at her so she can navigate in a foreign country in states she's never been to before. I just obey directions until we magically wind up back at my place. It's magical. And a little disgusting.

I can read maps fairly well - although I do it kinda like a military op with very strict rules and regulations - but I suck at remembering where certain countries are on the world map and I'm really not good at the whole why things look the way they do. Like fjords.

World geography is definitely a failing of mine. I can usually guess what continent something's on, but actually finding it? Not so easy. Having a sister who's a geography major and a good friend who's a geology major makes it easier to remember what happens because of what. Fjords are glaciers, I think. But anyway, to bed with me.

YOU CAN DO IT! *WAVES POMPOMS*
