[personal profile] kate posting in [community profile] ante_up_losers
This is the brainstorming post for folks to get all those great ideas out in the open before official signups. We'll form teams later; for now, let's hear about those awesome ideas for Losers bang-size works or complements--or for prompts you'd love to foist on somebody else!

A few items before we get started:

1. Please take a look at the rules, particularly the size requirements for bang-sized fanworks. If you have any questions, please comment over there or Contact A Mod.

2. Items to address in your top-level comment:
--Type and size of fanwork you're creating (if you know).
--Subject matter, genre, general idea, other details about your fanwork (if you know).
--Type(s) of and size(s) of other fanworks you're looking for (if you have a preference).
--Types of team members (besides bang and complement creators) you might like on your team (see #3 below).
--Type of team interaction you're looking for and what level of involvement you'd like (see #4 below).
--Anything else you feel like including!

3. The bang is open to fanwork creators of any stripe and ability, and to works of any size. If you don't feel you can create a bang-sized work, you can create a complement-sized work. If you don't think you can create a complement-sized work, you can create something of any size during the Scramble. It is also open to people who don't have the time to create anything, but who want to be involved in the process and help all these great fanworks come to fruition! If you want to help a team, try one of these vital roles:

--Cheerleader - someone to keep the team's spirits up through the long slogging middle
--Whipcracker - someone to insist on daily/weekly/semi-monthly word counts/sketches/macaroni sculptures.
--Alpha - sometimes known as "first audience" - a person who gets the first look at a fanwork and enthusiastically asks for more (and sometimes provides gentle guidance - but not editing, that's next up).
--Beta - that editor who is a second (or third or seventeenth) set of eyes - eagle eyes, to catch any coloring outside the lines or stray unglued macaroni or typos and offer constructive criticism.
--Omega - ...just kidding. We don't actually know what an Omega would be on a team, but if you want one or want to sign up as one, go for it!
--Time manager/nagger/mother hen/random capslock squee person... any way you can bring organization, time management, nagging, random knowledge, enthusiasm, inspiration, motivation, squee, or just plain silliness to a team, please come and join the fun!

4. Use the comment space to work out how your team will work together. Do you want a hands off team? Take the idea and run with it, check in on the comm weekly and not really talk again until go time? Or do you want more involvement, maybe a weekly or semi-monthly chat session? Maybe you want to create a community for your team. Maybe having a daily email reminder is the way to go. Be specific - the teams need to keep each other on track and enthusiastic about their works and they should work together in a way that makes it fun and exciting for everyone - but not stressful. Basically, teams are one of the best ways to keep each other going so we have lots of awesome fanworks on the bang go-live date.

5. Please use the subject lines. Put as much or as little information as you can fit about your team, complement offering, bang-sized work, or type of cheerleading/whipcracking/alpha/beta/etc in the subject line, and then include details and questions and brainstorming in the body of the comment itself. Examples:

--Comics Bang: Artist looking for author, dark and gory. Fanmix or graphics complements, whipcracker.
--Knitting Complements: up to two bangs, cheerleader welcome
--Alpha for vids: willing to cheer on vid bangs or complements
--Fic Bang: Crack sonwman!AU, request wacky complements clown school Beta
--Podfic Complements
--Professional Prodder
--Fanmix Bang: set of 6; want art complement (covers) and cheerleader (broad musical tastes preferred)
--Haiku Complements: Sets of haiku for up to 4 art bangs
--Spreadsheet Designer: time mgmt for writers: words per day spreadsheet
--Art Bang: Looking for any other fanworks and Alpha for gentle comments
--Macaroni sculpture complement: any bang, but no rigatoni
--Horse Riding/Ownership Beta available
--Meta Bang: need help brainstorming in the comments
--Team Rock and Roll: rock band AU - join us, the more the merrier!
--Unknown: Want to create an unusual bang in tandem with one or more complement creators. (Include more details about what you might want to do in the comment itself).
--Unknown: Looking for a team to do pirates vs. ninjas in many formats.
--Plot bunny up for grabs (use the comment itself to elaborate (feel free to drop prompts or plot bunnies for others to pick up, but please make it obvious in the subject line you do not intend to do the fanwork yourself))

6. We're doing the sign-ups the same as last year: we’re asking for bang sign ups first (April 18-22, 2014), and then opening the floor to complement creators and others to form teams (April 23-27, 2014). This is so we can be sure that everyone has a chance to look at all the possible teams at once to decide where they can best put their enthusiasm (and not overdo it, like a lot of us wonderful Losers folk tend to). We don't want anyone to miss out being on a great team because they forgot to look at sign-ups after the first day and someone put up a magnificent macaroni sculpture bang on day four.

7. Have a great time! *turns on the disco ball*

I've been hanging round the edges of the fandom for a while, but I'd love to do a complementary-sized podfic or two.

Fanvid or Fanmix Team

Just throwing the idea out there. I have one song idea for a Jensen fanvid (Mercy by Matt Nathanson (m4a)), and would love a Cougar fanvid to accompany it, if someone has song or vid idea for it. I could go any way people want for the fanvids. I could make both, making it the big part of the bang, or we could both make individual vids as complements to a fanmix (or story or something)?

Seconding kate's comment here. Awesome song there-- reminds me of "Radioactive" in how many different ways it could be applied. Lots of potential there for totally different kinds of vids. One that leapt to my mind was how some of the vid concepts were mixing stills from the comics with action shots, for instance!

Okay, so [profile] lady_krysis has convinced me to attempt the bang again. I'm going to do a fic, specifically the other half of At the End.

It's going to be long and ridiculous, and it's going to be heavily team-and-movie based. OMG. /o\

I definitely need consistent cheer-leading, and I need people willing to keep me on track, because I suck and will run up against the deadline and then spew nonsense from my fingers while crying.

I'm going to write one of the ideas I've had for a while which is a post-apocalyptic Cougar/Jensen AU set in a world where pretty much everything is covered in ice and snow due to climate changes and, you know, the apocalypse. Our civilisation scrambles to survive and people with tech abilities are worth their weight in toilet paper (let's face it, you'd be more keen to have that than gold if the world came to an end).
It will be long - everything between 10 000 and 50 000 words basically - and it will hopefully be kinda awesome as well.

This might offer some inspiration: http://i.imgur.com/3UFj40k.jpg

I already have a beta (unrelated to the Bang) and do my own time management but I would love some complements! :D Not sure what kind since it depends on what the fic idea might inspire, so I'm open for suggestions!

Heads up: I might not be able to be super communicative outside of the weekly check ups due to work and being a somewhat busy person in general

I can potentially do a graphic complement. Like Kate said this is an intriguing idea. I could so use that image as a reference for it.

I've got two AU crossover ideas I can work on. One is a previously attempted Losers/Dark Angel where the boys are X5s and are on the mission to Columbia when Manticore falls. The other is a Losers/Babylon 5 that has three ideas sitting in the pen.

I'd need lots of cheerleading, someone to beta and brainstorm with and just lots of encouragement to stay the course. I'm not taking any classes this summer so I'll have plenty of time to devote to writing. (School kinda derailed my energies from writing.)

Ooh this sounds like fun! I like the idea of the Losers/Dark Angel crossover. I haven't seen a huge amount of the show but I've read some awesome DA fics and it'd be a great fandom to cross with the Losers.

I'll happily cheerlead and/or beta if need be.

Team: Losers Tarot

From: [personal profile] mific
I'd like to do an art project as a primary for the BB - don't think anyone's done a Losers version of the major arcana of the Tarot yet. Having lived through the seventies I've been a tarot fan for a while, and have made a more traditional deck before.

So the cards (22 of them) are: The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Justice, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Strength, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, The World.

I think with the BB timeframe I'd just be doing the artwork for these cards, but after that, if I can figure out how to get them printed I might possibly make a real deck (obviously for very limited within-fandom distribution!) with more detailed King/Queen/Knight/Page cards and simpler 1-10 cards.

Anyway, I've got lots of ideas, and any complements anyone'd like to do would be awesome!

I just got a sewing machine and I would love to make something cool with it, but have no idea where to start.

Had a vague idea that someone out there might also be into costumes (and a better artist/designer than me) to do like, an AU costume design thing, or something? That might turn into a bang all by itself, which would be cool.

See also earlier inspiration here:
http://ante-up-losers.dreamwidth.org/39820.html?thread=1018252#cmt1018252

Basic concept: My 1/3 scale resin folks will represent fannish passion in a 4-5 photoshoot sequence. There will be 8-9 dolls involved. The cosplaying fans are dramatizing some key events in the Losers movie/comics cannon for their clueless friends at a convention.
I'm not thinking of absurdist Cartoon Network animation stills of bashing chickens etc., I'm thinking slightly more realistic interactions.
To get a broader idea of possibilities, here's a Flickr pool with lots of very different dolls of this type, many of them much more elaborately artified than my crew is.
https://www.flickr.com/groups/bdjs/pool
This is a group shot of some of my characters in random deshabille. The two on the left need their faces fixed, which I will be doing.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/girdethsvoice/8422301949/in/set-72157632627375191
Another random as-they-are shot. Third from left, tall guy is our version of Max. Middle, with furry hair, in need of a proper face and eyes (doable!) is our geek Jensen. The brown Korean guy on the right is our cosplay Cougar for story purposes. The lady with curly red hair may be one of the clueless who ask questions. Also, she may be be cosplaying Black Widow from Avengers in some way, but probably not very well.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/girdethsvoice/6114846531/in/set-72157627472329105

If folks want to work on this directly, I could really use help in these areas--
1) picking choice scenes most important to dramatize
2) picking expandable scenes if anyone else wants to jump in with art/images
2) possible fabric/paper projects to go in the pix (printed 1/3 scale pirate hat for Jensen? paper masks using comics or movie images?)
3) putting comix-style text onto finished pix
4) brainstorming and improving the dialogue (in-jokes welcome!)

I am very open to the idea of artists drawing scenes they really want to do, which could expand to include more events between the 4-5 images. The visual sequence could vary between pictures, movie screencaps, comics images, and freehand art, much as the movie itself does, which would be cool.

I'd like to do this as weekly check-ins--I'm open on format for this. Email, gdocs, tumblr??
First 2-3 weeks I must put together supplies and doll art.
During this period I could use help picking key scenes to dramatize, plus any dialogue.
In 3-4 weeks, I want to do establishing shots to give a better idea what these characters look like right now, vs. what they should be trying to cosplay. This is to check how each shot setup is going to work. There should be a silly paper pirate hat, there should be a Cougar Hat. Some of these dolls should end up wearing paper masks, popping in and out of them ridiculously, as do fans who don't match their cosplay character at all.
If folks volunteer to help out with making things that go into shots, that needs to get mailed to me by mid-June. Work on dialogue/text to go in the graphix needs to get done by end of June I think.
Work on putting text on the completed images (and any reshoots, hopefully none!) can happen by the end of July.
I would love to have help to make this both fun to read and something we can share proudly!

I just tonight came across this one, and of course Jensen-Roque barbecue pyro hijinx instantly came to mind.
Just tossing this out there as possible inspiration?? Not for burning things down yourself, mind...

Initially, explanation here on how line is a Ruben's Tube gats expanded into 2D as a pyroboard and responds to audio sounds, although you can't hear some of the designer's comments. Um, if *my* physics classes had been like this, I'd have had a lot different attitude about the whole thing. Just sayin'.

More info here, on the designer's YouTube posting. It starts off fairly restrained, about 1:25 is when they start playing music.

Team Gym Rat: creating a Losers workout program

From: [personal profile] scheherezhad
a.k.a. Team I Will Try to Do This Thing Because I'm a Sucker for My Friends I'll copy here what I posted in my own journal the other day, which was then suggested to be turned into a bang.

I found myself wondering what a Losers workout regimen would be like. I concluded it would look something like this:

*Aisha day - agility (for evading a bunch of dudes with guns and being the fierce-ass queen you are)
*Cougar day - yoga & meditation (for stillness and calm as you're patiently waiting to snipe somebody dead)
*Roque day - lower body (bc have u seen idris elba's ass and legs, goddamn)
*Jensen day - upper body/abs (bc have u seen chris evans's shoulder to waist ratio, i can't even)
*Pooch day - cardio (insert something clever here about transportation and endurance, idk)
*Clay day - rest (take a smoke break, get laid, plan your revenge on your enemies, whatevs)

So basically, I'd be fleshing this out into an actual workout program, and also trying to follow it for the remainder of the bang timeframe once I have it set up. I suspect there will be a lot of influence from Neila Rey's geeky-themed workouts. It'll be almost all, if not completely, bodyweight/no equipment needed exercises so it's accessible to all fitness levels and doesn't require buying equipment or going to a gym.

All complements are welcome! Fic, art, fanmixes to keep you pumped through your sets, Losers-inspired workout gear, picspams of the actors' physiques... There are so many options! :D Cheerleaders and whipcrackers/accountability buddies are definitely needed, as I am tragically prone to shitty time management and abandoning projects.

Uhhhhhhhhhh completely going a 180 from my other thoughts, I'd like to do a Losers all grew up in the same neighbourhood, playing in an abandoned lot making forts and being BFFs. Popsicles, overalls, stray cats, improvised weaponry, water fights. Gap-toothed smiles, bratty siblings, way too little supervision. Drawn in a watercolour/children's book illustration style, maybe.

Complements could be things like, a diorama of a fort, a map of a battle plan, fic, knit or crocheted kid things, miscellany (graffiti, notes, secret codes), a fanmix of BFF us-against-the-world songs, or improvised weaponry :P :P :D

I could ALWAYS use cheerleaders or time-counters as I'm super awesome at letting time slip away. I have art betas but more are welcome!

Hi!
So me and azurian-defiant, very new and very late to the party, are joining in with a regular size bang fic we're collaborating on, yay! (or I guess that'd be double-bang? 10k each?)

It's a crack crossover with the movie Push, where Jensen runs a bakery/cafe with angry teen psychic Cassie in the French Riviera, when a telekinetic terrorist happens, and The Losers come to investigate. Jensen accidentally woos Cougar with éclairs, Clay manages to blow up a casino due to girl trouble (not his fault, totally), and there's generally much destruction and mayhem and dumb boys who really should know better.

Anyone who wants to join this insanity in any way they can think of are more than welcome. Wanna do floor maps and architectural drawings of the bakery? Awesome. Wanna recreate Cougar's favourite baked goods? Oh god yes. Wanna create tacky postcards and souveniers for Jensen to sell along with baked goods? You're the best.

Otherwise, we would love and worship cheerleaders and/or alpha readers, and if anyone has high level French language skills or any level Portuguese skills, experience working in a bakery/cafe, or military/weapons knowledge and would be willing to share, that would be really, really helpful.

Oh! There will also be an original song (lyrics and recorded mp3) and possibly a playlist? Because this thing ate our brains.

This sounds so fuuuun! I wish I'd kept up with my French so I could help in that regard but alas. I'm trying not to overcommit but goodness, I do love baking (just made lemon scones yesterday). But the fun in baking is sharing the treats with everyone! *ponders*

*cheers you*
